If you're part of a small business then the CSCS fiasco along with the
pre-qualification companies that are springing up all over the place, are
effectively squeezing the small business out of main stream construction.
Interserve are the latest company to decide that if you wish to remain on
their supply chain they you will have to sign up to another pre-qual
company, which in this case is SafeContractor. "What's wrong with CHAS?", I
asked. "It's too general sir", was the reply.

I'm all for pre-qual companies to reduce the burden of pre-qual paperwork
but why do we have to pay for the privilege. Why do we have to pay someone
else to prove that we have the correct systems and working practices in
place, only for another main contractor to decide that their pre-qual
company is "more suitable".
