Project for Reducing Respiratory Disease in Kerb, Paving and Block Cutting
News

The HSE have currently highlighted kerb, paving and block cutting activities as a topic for particular focus. Where appropriate HSE Inspector's will therefore be paying particular attention to this activity on the sites they visit, or observe during their working day. Inspectors have been given guidelines on the issuing of enforcement notices to amend working practices where the standards are found to be inadequate. This could mean almost any streetwork project, driveway or development fronting a public highway. The Sector Information Minute that has been produced to support the enforcement is now available from the HSE website at the following web address:
http://www.hse.gov.uk/foi/internalops/sectors/construction/020901.htm - HSE are working woth stakeholders to explore the possibility of tackling all health issues associated with working with kerb, paving and block materials as a single supply chain project. This may include manual handling, respiratory disease, noise and hand arm vibration issues. This more expansive approach is in line with HSE's current strategy.
